An Unshakable Shake-Out

Today is the "Great California Shakeout".  For those of you unfamiliar with this day, it is a state-wide earthquake drill.  Are you prepared?  Are you ready for the "Big One"?  Are you unshakable?  Hopefully, those of us that were at Ladies' Fellowship last night are feeling motivated to become unshakable.

Last night, Melissa lead us through "Chapter 4-Unshakable Simplicity" and left us with a new confidence that we, along with Paul and many others, can rejoice in affliction, and possess a peace that passes all understanding in the midst of the storms of life.

We began the study singing, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."

"Oh what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry,
                                   everything to God in prayer".

Melissa began the evening reminding us of this truth, that often the reason that we don't experience this "unshakable faith" is because we don't bring everything to God in prayer.    Next we spent  time reading and discussing scriptures teaching us the following truths:

  • trials are inevitable
  • we must rejoice in them
  • we have a purpose here and it is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him
And, how are we to remain unshakable?

  • pray
  • stay focused on the truth, specifically that this is not our home
  • everything that happens here is for His glory and our good
  • focus on today!  Don't add tomorrow's burdens onto today's
Then, we closed with Peggie's comment that the reason that we are often burdened down is because we fail to go to the Lord first.  So, we came full circle and ended where we began.  The conclusion:  Unshakable simplicity in great measure, can be achieved by bringing all that shakes us, or has the potential to shake us, to Him.

I hope this leaves you shake-prepared.  May you have an unshakable shake-down day!
