We Have Been to the Basement!

So, what did we learn in the basement on Wednesday?  We learned that living in the basement is Cynthia Heald's terminology for the foundational truths that we are to hold to.  So, "living in the basement" is to live immersed in the fundamentals of our faith.

This study was very timely since it was on the heels of the Sunday sermon-Contending for the Faith.  Karen lead us through Chapter 6 and just what the "faith" is that we are to contend for.  Here's some of what I jotted down about our great salvation:

  • WE are great sinners.
  • CHRIST is our propitiation, justifier, redeemer and our hope of glory.
  • He died on our behalf to justify us, to reconcile us to God and to turn our terror into joy.
  • GOD'S wrath needed to be appeased, yet HE IS THE ONE that gave his only son to cover OUR sins!
We need to remember and dwell on these "basement truths" so that we can be firmly grounded and not led astray.  We also discussed "basement verses" that make up the foundation of what we believe.  Here are some of the ladies' verses:

  • Galatians 6:14
"But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world."
  • Psalms 19:14
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer."
  • Hebrews 10:14     "For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified."

How about you?  Please share your basement verses with us!
