Questions 3 and 4

And now, for a review of our discussions on number 3 and 4:

#3 What are some ways that we can see God's hand at work and take pleasure in it, while difficult circumstances are going on in our lives, rather than seeing later how God was working?

• immerse ourselves in scripture and prayer, so that we might better see His hand
• Give thanks.  When we force ourselves to thank God in all things we can better see His hand
• Go to others and ask if they can see God working, and for them to pray for us
• read biographies of those who have gone through similar trials
• reflect on past trials for the purposes of reminder that God brings us through and blesses us with many gifts in the midst of the trial
• Remember Romans 8:28!

#4 What aspects of modern life fuel the sinful discontent of our heart?  What steps can we take to avoid them?

• Throw the catalogs away as soon as we get them!
• fast forward through commercials
• look at Facebook prayerfully, or not at all
• when tempted to buy, stop and reason with self, "do I really NEED this?"
• apply scripture to all temptations

And here are some final thoughts:

• contentment HAS to be learned, which is a process
• in order to be content, we need to know God
• find someone to pray for your particular area of discontent
