Get Out of the Traffic and Into the Pasture!

Profound Simplicity-Chapter One

Did anyone think about the title before reading this chapter? Peggie would not be one to let us get away with that!  Specifically, Peggie had us analyze the meaning of "profound".  And what did we come up with?  The word means foundational, centered, deep, literally, reaching to the bottom of the matter, or to the foundation.  So, that is what this chapter was about...the foundation of simplicity...a good place to begin.

Which leads me to one of Peggie's first questions, "Why do we simplify"?  There were a variety of answers but the one that we were to arrive at was, "to glorify God".  When discussing "simplifying" we concluded that we are talking about an inner simplifying which leads to peace of heart and mind.

So, how to get started?  In answer to this we read Psalm 23 and Dianne helped us to realize that it all starts with "laying down in green pastures"...or resting in our Shepherd.  We need to begin our day resting in Him...and then proceed with hearts that are focused on our Shepherd and doing all for His glory. And, what does the Shepherd do for the sheep throughout the rest of this Psalm?  He provides EVERYTHING!

We also discussed Psalm 127:1-2 and the vanity of going about things with out following our Shepherd.  The question here was, "Are we doing all to the glory of God?"  "Are we waiting on Him before proceeding with "our" plans?"  Good questions!  We need to take our own yokes off (Matt. 11:28-30) and put His on...or come under His authority, not our own.  And really, which is easier?

Though we didn't get to discuss it, the author shares Psalm 46:10, my favorite Psalm.  She gives us the Message Version: "Step out of the traffic!  Take a long, loving look at me, your High God".  So, in closing, here are Peggie's two questions for us to be thinking about throughout this study,:  "Am I doing everything for the glory of God" and "How can I practically step our of the traffic"?
